Rolfing Sessions
What to Expect With Rolfing Therapy
HOW DOES ROLFING FEEL?
The Rolfing technique ranges from light touch to deeper contact, depending on your comfort range. It is important that you, as a partner in the process, feel free to communicate your experience throughout your sessions.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
While Rolfing techniques applied to even one part of the body can benefit the body as a whole, Rolfing is most effective in a series of 10 sessions.
Each 75-minute session focuses on a specific area of the body; each session has a prescribed approach, and each builds on the last. You will be encouraged to make a commitment to at least three sessions. However, it is the full 10 sessions, scheduled once every week or two, that give the body adequate time to realign, rebalance and reorganize itself.
DOES ROLFING LAST?
Rolfing is noted for its capacity to faciliate lasting change. Its benefits go far beyond providing immediate relaxation and temporary relief from pain. It addresses real physical problems and results in permanent change as it (1) realigns the entire body, resulting in a higher level of functioning, and (2) helps the body "reorganize" itself, so that existing patterns that cause pain or tension are eliminated. The body will continue along a course of improved balance unless new injuries interfere with that progress. Rolfing also helps gaurd against future injury and strain.
Many people find it beneficial to return two to three times a year for "tune-up" sessions.
